WALT DEREY
President
Walt joined Pitman Construction in 1997, after playing football and graduating from the University of Virginia. As president he believes in approaching all projects as a team, to provide clients with the best possible work Pitman can offer.
Walt serves on the board of the University of Virginia Alumni of the Roanoke Valley and on the Roanoke Valley Boys and Girls Club. He has coached football and other sports at multiple high schools, and he organized and ran a youth football camp for many years with UVA teammates and former NFL standouts Tiki and Ronde Barber. Walt and his wife, Meggan, have three children.
CLIFFORD W. “BUD” DEREY
Founder
A native of Bristol, Tennessee and an East Tennessee State University Alum, Bud has been in construction for more than 40 years. As a founder and the chairman of the company, Bud instilled in Pitman a hardworking spirit and commitment to excellence. Now in retirement, Bud enjoys painting and spending time with his wife.
Bud is an active member of First Presbyterian Church. He and his wife, Jessie, have been married for more than 50 years and have two children and five grandchildren.
BILL HART
Operations Manager
Bill has over 40 years in the construction world and has devoted his career to seeing the projects that he manages, big or small, are done right. He is a Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi Alumni who settled here in the Roanoke Valley. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, and loves the outdoors, especially hiking and fishing.
JOHN AVERILL, JR.
Construction Supervisor
John has over 33 years of construction experience, 25 with Pitman. Before that, John was in the United States Marine Corps. You can be certain with John on your project, that it will be completed with an attention to detail and perfection. He has worked on projects ranging from historic renovations to full home construction. John is an avid tennis player, and enjoys golf and kayaking, as well as spending time with his dogs.
MARK BROWN
Project Manager Service Group
Mark was born and raised in Roanoke and has 35 years of experience. After 25 years, he retired from the Roanoke City Fire Department. Mark is married to his loving wife Tonya with four kids. When he has free time, he enjoys woodworking and is an avid football fan.
KECIA CONLEY
Office Manager
Kecia has been Pitman’s office manager since 2017. She has a bachelor’s degree in business and her hobby is transporting rescued dogs to new homes/owners. She has two grown children, Brogan and Kelsey, and one grandson. Kecia and her husband Jeff have been married for over 30 years.
SAVANNAH DEREY
Project Manager
Savannah is joining Pitman this year fresh off of graduating from James Madison University with a BBA in business management. She graduated Magna Cum Laude while also being a member of the JMU varsity women’s lacrosse team. She is bringing fresh skills and excitement to the Pitman team and is looking forward to serving our clients well.
AMANDA CARPER
Office Admin Assitant
Amanda has joined our team with a bright and bubbly personality and great organization skills. She is a native of Salem and is an amazing addition to our team keeping us connected behind the scenes. Amanda has 3 children that she also raised here in SW VA.
